I enjoyed reading this. It draws some interesting pictures of rural Victorian life. My only criticism is of the ending--rather abrupt, as if the author tired of the story, more than finished it.Product details

Half a Lifetime Ago Elizabeth Gaskell 9781519793430 Books Reviews
Susan is true to her promise to her mother to take care of her invalid brother which she does to her own detriment. She remains unmarried, unloved and lonely when her only sweetheart marries another woman. This short story ends with Susan again giving unselfishly of her means to help others who are in need. I wish there was a bit more. Great but much too short.
Consistently superb writing. Love her stories.
Elizabeth Gaskell is the greatest.
A short story featuring the life of the protagonist Susan. The story begins describing the country side and long time resident Susan, her current life. The narrator takes us back in time and tells the tale of the events that shaped her life and choices she had to make. Then a little further forward again. I found this a very moving piece of literature. What would I or anyone else do when faced with what this lady did? Another very interesting and imaginative read.
it was well written but short. I enjoyed it. the ending is sad. It seemed a bit different than Gaskell's other works.
No complaints ! Great shipping and excellent seller.
